Updates – May 4th, 2011

All fisheries are now open, with 4 boats on Lough na Tooey, 2 boats on Rooskey Lake, 2 Club boats and 1 visitor boat on Glen Lough.

Development work on the current phase of the Lackagh fishery are almost complete (pictures to follow shortly).

Lough na Tooey has been fishing well in recent days, with large hatches of buzzer driving the fish to a feeding frenzy. Most small buzzer patterns are picking up fish to 3lbs+.

On Rooskey Lake, a similar hatch has the small brown trout feeding avidly even during the day. The larger trout still remain elusive although it may be possible to target these in the evenings with greater success.

Lough Na Tooey fishing well…

A trip last Friday morning yielded some 21 cracking rainbows to three rods in a 3 hour session. After a slow start while it was determined where the fish were and what they were feeding on (buzzer, and seemingly nothing else) action was fast and furious with a Pheasant-Tailed Nymph fooling most of the fish. Black Pennels, Silver Spiders and other buzzer imitations took the rest.

All trout were in excellent condition and very acrobatic, providing great sport.

Lough na Tooey – Summer Hours

The new Lough Na Tooey Summer season opening hours came into effect as of this Sunday the 27th of March with 2 sessions; 9 am to 3pm and 4pm to 10pm daily – 7 days a week.

Gerry Friel reports that the Lough is fishing well at the moment during the calm sunny spells with duck fly and olive hatches bringing the fish to the surface on the feed. Saturday saw a large rise of fish and Sunday also saw Jim Curran, David McClaffery & Son take four fish for a short afternoon session in cooler conditions.

Permits and Boat hire are available from Lafferty’s filling station above the Fishery in Creeslough.

All anglers are reminded to please remember to always wear a lifejacket when afloat.

News Page Added.

The News page is up and running, although all that’s on there at the moment is related to development of the website.

Hopefully, we’ll have most of the content added shortly, it’s mostly a matter of transferring content we had on the old development site to this one, then getting some pictures of Creeslough and district and the fisheries.

However, due to the inclement weather, the chances of my getting about to take a few pictures of the fisheries or the local area/businesses/etc is out, which might slow things down a little.

Forum installed.

We’ve installed a Forum so we can all have a chat online and help out with any questions from visiting anglers – or indeed existing members I suppose.

Forum registration is NOT open yet but we do hope to open it up just as soon as the rest of the site is completed.

Galleries

We’ve added a basic gallery page. At the moment, we have two galleries on display.

The first is from the Lackagh River with pictures taken by John Todd of John McLaughlin.

The second gallery contains a bunch of images from my exploits on Sunday past – mostly of the McLaughlin family fishing at The Meadows Trout Fishery, although the keen of eye may spot a certain Mr Friel in the distance.

I need a telephoto lens….

If you have any other pictures of any of the Creeslough fisheries, please pass them on.

On the Fisheries page I plan to drop in galleries as well, so I’ll need all the content I can get.

Visitor Maps added

Check out the Visitor Maps menu link to see who visits, and from where/when/etc. It should be interesting.

It might still need a few tweaks, but it’s basically working.

A Welcome

Welcome to the Creeslough and District Angling Association website. We are a game angling club located in North Co. Donegal with excellent waters to fish for wild Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout, Sea Trout and Salmon. The Club was founded to provide first class angling opportunities for its members, and we welcome visiting anglers to share our sport with us.

Whether you prefer to bank or boat fish, we have waters to suit. The Forum is an excellent place to ask questions of experienced local anglers and the Gallery should offer a number of images that will help you gauge what the different waters are like. Guiding services can be arranged on request on any of the waters.

If your plans run to more than a flying visit, Creeslough offers a wealth of activities and amenities for the whole family and is an excellent jumping-off point for exploring North Donegal. Accommodation available locally ranges from Hotel through B&B to Self-catering.

Should you want to vary your fishing, there is excellent shore (rock, beach and pier) and charter boat fishing available locally. Ards estuary in particular can offer excellent sea trout and mullet fishing. There’s also a good range of other activities and amenities within easy striking distance. Clean, safe beaches, parks such as Glenveigh and Ards Forest Park, golf courses such as Cruit and Portsalon. Pitch-and-putt facilities are also available locally.

Creeslough village is some 20Km North West of Letterkenny, Co Donegal, through Kilmacrennan on the N56. It is an ideal location for the tourist and for people interested in fishing. The village has unspoiled surroundings and other attractions which make it a worthwhile resort for the family. There is a beach for surfing and sail-boarding at Marble Hill.
